good ol' all hallow's eve

I've always loved Halloween, and even as an "adult" it's still a great excuse to eat a lot of sugar and dress up.  I tried to go to approximately one Halloween house party in my college time. I hated it. I'm not much of a party person, unless I get to host it OR it's Christmastime.  I will suffer drunk people if Christmas cheer is involved.

I digress.  Halloween 2015 was a good sweet spot in terms of fun.  The night before, I made cupcakes and shared them with some friends at a game night. I spent most of my Halloween at work in my bat skirt and black & orange jewelry (thanks Grandma!). Halloween music filled the air, which I was pleased about. It rained BUCKETS. Seriously.  Flooding was a thing. I ate a lot of candy, too.

When I got home, I started the Sadness-ing process. I put on my big pale blue cashmere turtleneck (um, yes, I used this as an opportunity to buy something nice from work to wear again in the future!) and blue pants.  I put on my blue wig. I put on my awesome new blue lipstick (the last time I bought lipstick was last Halloween for my Lorde costume!). When Ted got home, he put the finishing touches on his Bing Bong costume. I helped him with the getup, and it turned out quite cute. He even bought himself fun rainbow socks for the occasion.  It was adorable.

And then our crazy night began! We ushered at a choral concert. I worked the comp tickets table. Why yes, we do know how to party hard! Thanks for asking.  But really, it was great--the music was a bit spooky, and afterwards we got drinks with a couple of friends at a pub in our neighborhood called North 45. Somehow the waitress brought us everything except for the two things I ordered, but otherwise it was a lovely time, with lots of entertainment (aka drunk, dressed up adults acting like children). Oh Halloween... We ended our night with the first season finale of Twin Peaks. I'd say it was a good Halloween.

today I am thankful for...cupcakes

I'm not one to let Thanksgiving get taken over by Christmas, so I like to dedicate November to "thankful" posts. This is a few days late, but I made cupcakes the night of Halloween and it made me so incredibly happy.  Ted and I also watched Halloweentown (which we realized during the credits was actually filmed here in Oregon--we kind of geeked out) because it's the best ever.  This situation filled me with such joy.  Hope your Halloween was just as sweet!

pumpkin patching

On our way back from the coast, Ted and I stopped in McMinnevile to grab a few pumpkins to put on the porch.  A couple weeks later, I went on a school-sponsored field trip to Sauvie Island and got one more pumpkin and a tiny pumpkin chiffon pie.  Obviously.  Now I have four pumpkins of various sizes and several tiny pumpkins.  I need more.

halloween in my room/my room in general

I couldn't help but add a little holiday spirit to my already chaotic and tiny wooden room.  It wasn't hard to add a little pizzazz after receiving Halloween packages in the mail from Amy and my grandparents!  (Some festive tea from my aunt was also crucial to harnessing my holiday spirit.)

PS-My room is weird and narrow, which makes it difficult to take pictures that have much in them, so I apologize for the massive post.

MY ROOM IS TINY AND WEIRD AND FREEZING COLD...

But it's colorful and mine.

this is halloween

Went to a Halloween party on Friday night.  Ted and I won best costume!
Had some butterbeer and a cauldron cake at Harry Potter shabbat & baked late night vegan pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and watched a little Nightmare Before Christmas on Saturday.
Stumbled upon a pumpkin carving party after dinner on Monday.

I put my phone's flashlight on inside to light it up!

I was extra festive yesterday, and today I am in costume!

Hope everyone is having a happy Halloween!  I'm spending mine a little sick, drinking tea, watching Sabrina the Teenage Witch, eating too much sugar, and doing homework.  At least I'm in costume!  Well, when I'm out and about--right now I'm in my comfy clothes.

I offered to replace someone on crew, so I also have dress rehearsal for the mainstage (I'm a wardrobe supervisor) all night.  In retrospect, I probably should have considered the time commitment before saying "Sure! Of course!" right away.  I definitely take after my mom in that way, always offering my help even though it might drive me a little crazy.

Regardless, it's been a wonderful and packed October and I'm so excited for what November and (eee!!!) December has in store for me.  Happy Halloween!

P.S. There were decorate-your-own cookies and caramel apples in the bon tonight.  I almost spilled sprinkles everywhere when a head popped up from the table.

american girls for life

When I got dressed today, I looked in the mirror and was reminded of my American Girl doll Kit Kittredge...  And when Claire visited me outside the theatre for the costume sale, I dressed her up as my other historical doll, Kirsten Larson.  All of this made me extremely happy, because I love the magical and nostalgic world of American Girl.

low quality pics of high quality halloween enthusiasm

I recently got a Halloween package in the mail from my lovely grandparents and this is what happened to my room...
Window decor I made from tissue paper.

Old-fashioned Halloween postcards and some ribbon for good measure.
Fall garland I made from felt leftover from last year's Ms. Frizzle costume.
Fabric ghost and mummified owl made from leftover fabric from this year's costume.  Also:  sweet nail polish.
Web tissue paper with giant festive spider.
A trolley-load (oh Harry Potter jokes, you never get old) of candy.  Pumpkin Spice tea!  Mummified gourd (my roommate's...I surprised her)!  Pumpkin lotion!! (I've been putting this on every day since I got it.  One morning I forgot and Ted told me I smelled like pumpkin.  I was like, Well, I didn't put the lotion on today...  I must be exuding Fall enthusiasm from my every pore.)
Old-fashioned Halloween postcards.
Random sparkly fun.  And yes, a I Love Pie sign was necessary to make.
Not decorations.  But.  Kenzie's pickles.  Enough said.
Pumpkin from the dining hall!!!!  Ted politely asked if we could take one, and the guy was so surprised we didn't try to steal one like everyone else that he let us take one!

Halloween is coming, and I'm ready with another banner I don't even know where to put.
