winning london

Yesterday I found out that I was accepted to the Spring 2014 London Arts program!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been waiting for months to find out, and finally read the decision email on my plane after I landed in Portland (I went home for spring break).  The email stayed blank for what seemed like an entire minute as it loaded.  My heart pounded, my eyes teared up and I stared super intensely at my phone that I was holding in my hands like it held the secrets of the universe (I bet the mom and her teenage son to my right thought I was going insane).  Once it loaded and I processed the information, I felt such a relief wash over me (and fought the urge to tell everyone sitting near me who were impatiently waiting to get the okay to get their carry ons down).  The London program is one of the most competitive study abroad programs offered at my school, so it was an intimidating and stressful application process.  It was worse than applying to colleges.  Really.  So it is such a honor that I am one of the 28 people selected.  And guess who else is one of those people?

TED! I get to have my adorable bearded boyfriend there with me the whole time. THIS IS REAL LIFE, YOU GUYS.  WE ARE GOING TO LONDON.  AND WE ARE GOING TO STUDY THEATRE, ART, AND MUSIC AND TRAVEL TO LOTS OF PLACES IN EUROPE AND MY FAMILY IS GOING TO VISIT ME AND I AM GOING TO FINALLY ENROLL AT HOGWARTS.

So yeah, it's pretty cool I guess.

hearts day sweets & crafts

This past Saturday night my roommate and I had a Valentine's Day get together with some friends.  It was a great turnout, and I was surprised how easy it was to get people to make valentines with me!  I really should just follow my mom's footsteps and become a kindergarten teacher, because it made me so happy to get my guy friends to make Valentines for their moms...
The benefit of using heart-shaped measuring cups.
I made brownies (with the heart-shaped tins I got last year from my grandparents) and Claire made chocolate chip cookies, courtesy of the Baked book I got Ted our first Christmas together.
YAY!!!!

the perfect lunch

The other day I had the most wonderful lunch.  It consisted of:

ciabatta bread + tomato + mozzarella + basil + avocado

blackberries

naked juice

lovely weather

a good book

fetch with Izzy

Life is good.

for your information

I saw The Muppets over Thanksgiving break and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.  Go see it and smile for 98 glorious minutes.

on my mind

I think the Facebook app "Top Words" (it calculates your most commonly used words in your status updates) sums up the contents of my brain now perfectly.

Life is good.  Life is also confusing, frustrating, annoying, and sometimes just crazy.  But mostly it's freakin' awesome.  Especially when I get to see my Izzerton.

Good thing I realized what I wanted to do with my life before college began.  That in itself is so relieving and comforting.  I love having a distinct visualization of the goal I am working towards.

Happy Saturday!  I decided that college-wise, Saturdays are my favorite.  I love going downtown for the day. Especially when it involves...

It had oodles of breads, desserts, pastries, and arguably my favorite thing in the world, MOZZARELLA AND TOMATO SANDWICHES!  Actually, this one had fancy olives too.  It was tres delicieux.

This is the sandwich, half eaten.

We originally set out to find Trader Joe's, but instead we found Food Front, which was pretty nice and had some of my favorite magazines (Martha Stewart Living, Dwell, Bon Appetit, etc.) including McSweeney's, which I had never seen in the flesh before.

Also, FINGER PUPPETS!

And this is just the slightly terrifying Portlandia statue on top of a building.

Love Portland.  More and more each day.  I am enamoured with the green & DIY scene.  (Hey, I can rhyme!)

A blurry picture of me NOT in my natural habitat.  This was a trail that Siri and I used a couple of weekends ago to walk to the grocery store near campus.  TO THE GROCERY STORE, GUYS!

My favorite bench for reading and studying.  So. Green.  Just don't wear bright red tights or bees will come to say hi. (True story.)

Yearbook, I miss you so.  Is it lame that I explained the theme of the 2011 book to my friends at dinner tonight?  DON'T EVEN CARE.  I miss it.  So very thankful I have something creative to be a part of here (costume shop), or I would be so very empty.

Harry Potter references.  All day long.  Thank goodness I have friends here that tolerate it and sometimes encourage it.
Let's just pretend the Manor House is Hogwarts, okay?

GLEE!!!!! It's on my mind 24/7 now that it is back.  Yesterday I received season 2 on DVD in the mail!  It was a delightful surprise.  Thank you, Grandma!
P.S. Amy sent me that cute crane in a lovely package.

Christmas is just around the corner!  I am extremely EXCITED.  I thouroughly enjoyed watching the Glee Christmas episode last night before I went to sleep.  Christmas songs are my drug.  I can't wait to overdose the moment it strikes midnight after Thanksgiving.  Also, the Christmas Glee episode is the happiest situation ever.

LOOK AT THE KLAINE!  Maggie and I give you full permission to watch this even though it's not Christmas song season yet.  I guarantee it will lift your spirits.

Why isn't it holiday season yet?  Also, I am literally daydreaming about winter break already.  Can you say Christmas party?
"CHRISTMAS PARTY!" says You.

summer anecdote #2

Woke up at SIX O'CLOCK AM!  What's up with that?

Made myself a mozzarella, tomato, and basil sandwich for breakfast.  I think I have a problem, you guys.  I'm addicted.

Garage-saled with Dahlya until 10:30.  IT GOT SO HOT SITTING OUT THERE!

Afterward, I drank 3094039 glasses of cold water, ate a popsicle, and watched so much British television on Netflix Instant that I started to think in a British accent.

Attempted to narrow down what exactly I plan on bringing this fall.  From what I read, whatever I end up bringing will be too much.  Fun stuff!

Later, I'm seeing a movie, which will be my millionth movie of the summer!  Hooray!

RAINBOWS EVERYWHERE!
To celebrate, I am reblogging colorful things such as above on Tumblr and watching the gayest thing I can think of: Glee.  Hooray for love!  And hooray for Glee marathons!

summer ancedote #1

Wake up at 10:30 am.  Had to recharge after epic Gossip Girl marathon with Erin.

Make a pact to eat healthy all day.  (Grad parties really got the best of me.)  Eat fruit for breakfast.

Download A Very Potter Musical and A Very Potter Sequal soundtracks off Bandcamp.  Feel totally awesome.

Transfer my iTunes purchases to my new laptop.  Realize how much money I have spent on music alone.  Want to find a time machine.  SRSLY OMG WHY

Get a phone call from Melanie.  Anthro is hiring?!  Change from PJs to dress and hat in .75 minutes flat.

Eat stir fry and noodles.  OUT THE DOOR.  APPLICATION.  BAM.

Stay home to watch sister for the night.  Back to PJs.  Read Harry Potter for two and a half hours.

Make dinner for my sister and her friend.  Make pasta for myself (asparagus ravioli with the works).

LIFE IS GOOD.

smile like you mean it

The thing I will miss most about high school is Yearbook.  Actually, I don't think I will miss anything other than Yearbook.  This past Tuesday, the last day of Yearbook, was one of the most emotional days of my life!  I was verging on tears all throughout fourth and fifth hour as I worked on my EIC handbook.  To get ready for Glee, I put on the "Journey to Regionals" soundtrack and when "Don't Stop Believin'" came on, I almost lost it completely.  Not to mention "Over the Rainbow" and "To Sir With Love" came on... Geeze Louise.  "To Sir With Love"!!!!  They sang that song to Mr. Shuester.  Ah!  I was a wreck.  It wasn't until fifth hour that I finally broke into tears.  Epic hugging ensued.
After yearbook, I cried even more!  I am such a cry baby, you guys.  I was on the verge of tears all sixth hour as I finished converting layouts to send somewhere.  To torture myself even further, I still had my Glee music on, so I tried my hardest to keep it together during "My Life Would Suck Without You".  You being Mrs. Wrather, the editors, and the staffers.  When Mrs. Wrather and I said our (first) goodbyes, I lost it again.  I am so excited to move to Portland, but leaving behind Yearbook has been one of the toughest things I've ever done.
The night before graduation, I went to Kate's graduation party to eat all of Raquel's deliciously adorable cake pops.  Nom nom!

I feel like I have to clarify that the yearbook above has a plastic cover on it that says (in large sharpie print) where signers can not sign in the yearbook. Gotta love Tabz!

Crycrycrycry.  I felt so lame feeling so sad about leaving high school, but I literally had to keep myself together on the way from the yearbook room to my car.  When I got in the car, Glee made it worse AGAIN by playing "Pure Imagination"... GAH!

On my way to Sprouts for lunch (after a failed attempt to nap), it finally dawned on me:  I am going to Portland.  I am going to be freaking awesome in Portland!!!!  I haven't cried since.

The one thing I was worried about (you know how when you're nervous you tend to focus on the stupid little things?) was when I would switch the side of my tassel.  In complete Kaylie fashion, I was so calm about graduating that I forgot to even switch it.

My adorable family is adorable.

Phoebe is my baking buddy and Ken is my Glee buddy.  They are both going to Ivies.  They're just cool like that.

Three of my favorite sophomores/juniors.  Thanks Azlynn, for finally switching the side of my tassel!

I couldn't find Erin on the field at graduation, so we took a super classy photo in the theatre before Hangover 2.

After the movie, an impromptu dance party in the desert, I-Hop, and a party stop-by, we headed up to Falcon Hill Park to watch the sunrise.  I was pretty exhausted by this part, but I made it up and watch the sunrise with some of my besties.  I thought I would be sad at this point, but nope.

I have conquered Mesa.  Time to conquer Portland!

For my grad party, I wanted it to be as least serious as possible.  In the past I may have tried to make something like this "grown up" and classy, but no.  I said, BRING ON THE SLUSHIE MACHINE.  BRING ON THE COTTON CANDY MACHINE.  BRING ON THE CUPCAKES.

My parents rented a slushie machine, my mom made cupcakes, and my uncle used his free cotton candy rental.  IT WAS AWESOME.

Life is so good.
