fashion break: anna sui fall 2013

I just had to share this post I found, because it's so on point--this collection has Blair Waldorf written all over it and I am in love.

Wake up at 10:30 am.  Had to recharge after epic Gossip Girl marathon with Erin.

Make a pact to eat healthy all day.  (Grad parties really got the best of me.)  Eat fruit for breakfast.

Download A Very Potter Musical and A Very Potter Sequal soundtracks off Bandcamp.  Feel totally awesome.

Transfer my iTunes purchases to my new laptop.  Realize how much money I have spent on music alone.  Want to find a time machine.  SRSLY OMG WHY

Get a phone call from Melanie.  Anthro is hiring?!  Change from PJs to dress and hat in .75 minutes flat.

Eat stir fry and noodles.  OUT THE DOOR.  APPLICATION.  BAM.

Stay home to watch sister for the night.  Back to PJs.  Read Harry Potter for two and a half hours.

Make dinner for my sister and her friend.  Make pasta for myself (asparagus ravioli with the works).

LIFE IS GOOD.

team blair

I will admit I am more partial to brunette characters (Okay, completely--especially Blair and Rachel), but I have good reason.  I will always be Team Blair, Team Rachel, Team Every-character-Zooey Deschanel plays.  Here's why:
  • Brunettes are portrayed as more independent & strong-willed
  • Their style is more classic, retro, and preppy--LOVE!
  • They are usually shown as more serious/academic

As for the Serena/Blair debate:
  • Blair is all of the above and also has a killer attitude--you don't want to mess with B.
  • Serena is laid-back and all, but she can be pretty careless about the choices she makes and the guys she gets involved with.
  • Blair can be very mischevious and mean, but her brutal honesty is what makes her so lovable.
  • Serena shows too much skin.  Period.  I think modesty is sexier.  Plus, Blair has better lingerie anyway.
  • Blair is always put together and has a goal in mind to accomplish.  She doesn't stop until she gets what she wants.  Granted, not always is this in her best interest, but I admire her drive.
  • Serena tries to be all boho when she's really a socialite wearing thousands of dollars.  Come on.
  • Blair knows who she is. What's better than that?

  • What team are you?

happy valentine's day

Last week when Melanie and I went to the gas station at lunch, I found a GIANT valentine.

Friday night, my parents went on a date for pizza at Grimaldi's and cupcakes from The Coffee Shop.  Lucky for me, I got their leftovers (ricotta and tomato pizza, will you be my valentine?) to eat on Saturday afternoon.  Between this, Valentine-making, and the second half of The Wedding Singer and the first half of Made of Honor, I was in Valentine's Day bliss.

Sunday night I finished up valentines for my friends.

I decided to keep it simple and mimic the phrases on Sweethearts.  My personal favorites are WHATEVER and GO GIRL.

For treats for my pals and yearbook, I made Oreo truffles and mini strawberry shortcake cupcakes.

I love mini things.

I accidentally asked Melanie to marry me.  Whoops.  We're thinking about a summer wedding.

Man, I just look too cool for school right here... It's probably because I am wearing sunglasses inside.  And they're heart-shaped (double whammy).  Note the Katy Perry nail polish--I'm in love.  I am wondering if they sell it by the gallon?

The only thing better than pizza is heart-shaped pizza.  Yum!

Now, time for Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars with Melanie!  What a lovely day.

xoxo

today i am thankful for...life

Life is just way too much fun.  Seriously.  My little sister thinks I'm crazy for getting so excited about things such as the newest episode of Gossip Girl or deciding which Hermione hairstyle I should go with for my costume tomorrow...  But really, it's the silly things that make life so fantastic.  Like today in 4th hour yearbook when we played Harry Potter Clue, or last Thursday when I heard a Christmas song slipped in while we were shopping at Old Navy.  Or yesterday, when it finally hit me:  I'm going to college next year. Uh, WHOA.

Life is full of silliness and wonderfulness, and bit of seriousness in between.  But mostly it's a lot of getting extremely excited when your AP government teacher puts on his Harry Potter soundrack station on Pandora.  One thing is for certain:

Yes, I get a little carried away when it's Harry Potter season.
Yes, I get a little carried away when it's holiday season.

Yes.  I get a little carried away.

But can you blame me?

hey leighton, stop making me look bad, will ya?

Dear Leighton Meester,

I have a hat just.like.this. that I wore the other day with my hair just.like.yours., so imagine how I feel when I s(tumble) upon these pictures of you.  I don't know whether to feel flattered or discouraged about my efforts in comparison... So I will let it slide.  But just this once.

Best regards,
Kaylie

(P.S.  I am officially addicted to tumblr.  It started out as a harmless no-strings-attached relationship, but when I began to feel overwhelmed about all the awesome pictures I was finding and how I could blog them all gracefully, I caved.  Welcome to my life as a Marie Wannabe!)

today i am thankful for...glee

I am SO happy Kurt finally found a boyfriend (especially a sweet, ridiculously attractive one that is played by Harry Potter).  And this version of Teenage Dream is...well, a dream.  A Capella!  Chandeliers!  Blazers!  It's like Glee went Gossip Girl for five minutes.  Best.  Thing.  Ever.  AND SO MANY UNEXPECTED TWISTS!  I love you, Glee.

confession: i am secretly blair waldorf

...or at least her nerdy doppelganger.

Evidence:

We both wish we were in an Audrey Hepburn movie.
(Although I've never had an Audrey dream sequence like Blair often does, I do have a trench coat and have tried this hairstyle from Breakfast at Tiffany's many of times myself.)

We both like to pretend we're modern-day Marie Antoinettes

We both have this dress
(but mine isn't Marc Jacobs...)

We both know the value of a good hat
(not to mention retro clothes)

We both ♥ French macarons
(beaucoup, beaucoup!)

And most importantly, we like to be in control of things, whether it's planning a party or choosing the perfect outfit for each situation--because yes, it does matter.

XOXO,
K

bienvenue automne

Fall is here, and you know what that means?  Cooler weather (at least for AZ), October break, Sufjan Stevens concert, and--my favorite--Halloween!  It's an all-around good situation.  Not to mention Gossip Girl, Glee, and Bored to Death are back.  Also, HBO's new series Boardwalk Empire is pretty snazzy. (Other people seem to think so too, considering it is already signed on for another season after just one episode.)  I love the Prohibition era.  It is so intriguing.  And yeah, I love the clothes.  With a passion.  Sequined headbands for life!  That said, welcome Fall!

i miss you, plaid jacket. (but not so much you, biology homework)

Do you ever feel like you're stuck in a rut with your wardrobe?  Well, for someone like me, it's a sad situation, because I love using clothes to show whatever crazy thing I'm into at the moment, whether it be fifties housewife (usually the case) or cowboys (I found some boots in Flag--sooooo excited to wear them).

It's not so much a rut as an impatience.  Can't it be cooler out, already?  All I want to do is wear tights and cardigans and jackets and headbands (Maybe I am just experiencing GG withdrawal?).  Sometimes I start getting dressed and I realize that I am wearing 3492374938 more layers than is acceptable for summer in Arizona.  I do love the warm weather, but I think I love dressing for Fall and Winter just as much, if not more.  I think that I might be able to weather (pun intended) living somewhere else (like Portland, yeah!) with cold winters for this reason alone.  As long as I can wear some chunky sweaters and hats, life is good.

SERIOUSLY

THIS IS TOO MUCH TO HANDLE.
P.S. The background music reminds me of Charade.

So random! Don't ruin this for me, Lizzie. I used to be your biggest fan.

Wondering how long this will last...

Ah, Chuck. Think twice, please. She looks like a drugged-up Grace from Secret Life!

reasons why taylor momsen needs to settle down

THEN & NOW

Figure A: Her band, The Pretty Reckless--WHAT?

Figure B: The words coming out of her mouth.

"I'm not going to date someone who's sixteen. Boys are so much less mature than girls as it is; there's just no way-I would eat a boy my age alive." -Taylor Momsen in this month's issue of teenVOGUE

Figure C: Desperately wanting to be Courtney Love. Okay, I want to be Zooey Deschanel. But Taylor, Taylor, Taylor. This is embarressing.

WHAT HAPPENED TO MY LITTLE J?

I stood up for you when Kate made fun of your character on Gossip Girl and this is how you repay me? I'm disappointed.

it was a lovely ceremony

The Gossip Girl season finale didn't break my heart! This is great news. SO GOOD. Season 3 definately holds promise. Wow.

noooooooooooo

The season finale is called "Goodbye Gossip Girl."
I find this deeply distressing.
I don't want to say goodbye.
Polaroids and Gossip Girl. Two things I never ever want to become extinct. Sad, because both are threatening to break my heart.

weekend

I had such a lovely weekend!

Friday, I saw the finished yearbook and ate wonderful Mexican food.

Saturday, I helped out on a Habitat for Humanity project with my grandparents, napped, then took the lightrail to downtown Tempe and ate wonderful Greek food at the Greek Festival. Baklava, where have you been all my life?!

Sunday, I went to church with my other set of grandparents and ate wonderful Italian food at their house. Also, a few Huck Finn journal entries were completed and a lot more than a few magic cookie bars were consumed.

Basically, I ate ALL WEEKEND and did stuff good people do, like HfH projects, taking the lightrail, going to church, doing homework that is oh-so-avoidable, and uh...watching Gossip Girl? It feels GOOD. I wish every weekend could consist of such wonderful activities.
