happy mardi gras + women's day

(photo)

So it's Mardi Gras. And  I have no idea what to give up for Lent.  I decided to construct a list of things I enjoy way too much to help me with my decision.
  • My car. Haha, good one.  This one is ruled out by default.
  • Glee. Seriously, this night's episode was SEXAAAY. No really, it was called "Sexy."  (And yes Blaine, in fact you do turn my knees to jelly.)  It was also very emotional!  I was so impressed by the writers of Glee for being so fearless and real.  I started to tear up a few times, but then Blaine would come on and I'd be like, EVERYTHING IS OKAY, FOLKS because he is such a sweetie (understatement of my life) and seeing him with one of my favorite characters (Kurt's dad) made me SO HAPPY.  Also, it was so great to hear Kurt's voice for the first time in decades!  Seriously!
  • Darren Criss.  You guyzzzzz!  I haven't fangirled this hard since the 2010 outbreak of Stevens Fever.  I am losing my mind.  I listen to Not Alone on average of a 3242 times a day and Warblers songs are on constant repeat.  Can you blame me?  I have a weakness for intelligent and attractive musicians.  And Darren Criss is not only this; he is also a talented actor and writer.  And let's not forget he has PLAYED HARRY POTTER and is ON GLEE.  He is also so down-to-earth, sweet, and open-minded.  What more can you ask in a guy?  Answer:  Nothing.
  • Yearbook.  NOT HAPPENING.  Yearbook is MY LIFE, my love, my joy, the love of my life, the joy of my being.  My one and only.
  • Cuddling with my dog Izzy.  (See above)
  • Gossip Girl. This would be cheating, because it isn't going to be on again until April 18th anyway.
  • Tumblr, Blogs, Twitter, Facebook.  I gave up Facebook last year and it went alright...it just gave me more blog time. I honestly think that if I did this again I would end up just binge-tumbling and tweeting and blogging, which kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it?
  • Pushing the snooze button. The possibility of eight more minutes of sleep is oh-so-irresistible.  The possibility of 16...24...32... Well, I can't help myself.  It's so easy.
  • Baking.  Let's level here; giving this up would be a lose/lose situation for everyone.
Oh my goodness!  This is going to be a tough one.  I think there is some room to compromise, though.

For Lent I try to choose things that will help me improve as a person and simplify my life.  I'm also always up for a challenge.  So this is my proposition:
  1. Resist the urge of pushing the snooze button.  (The horror!)
  2. Limit computer time to one hour a day.
  3. Refrain from buying Glee songs on iTunes. (This will be slightly painful for me, but it will be worth it when I get to buy the Warblers CD coming out sometime in April!)

BTW, today is the 100th year anniversary of International Women's Day.  Woohoo!

a little birdie told me

...that I should stop obsessing over Zooey D.

I ignored it.

I am reading all her tweets on twitter at this very minute.

Maybe twitter isn't that annoying after all...

P.S. I feel like I could reenact this photo of Zooey if I could get my bangs to behave.  I have that many tea cups.

hamlet throwdown

Today in English we had a "Hamlet Throwdown" in which we fought to the death...with our "To be, or not to be" parodies.  In spite of the fact I started mine at eleven o'clock last night, I got second place!  Considering I almost forgot to do it, until I saw someone post something on Facebook about it, it was a lovely surprise.  Here it is (based on a true story/my life/right now):

To blog, or not to blog: That is the question
Whether it’s nobler in the mind to suffer
The focus and boredom of uninterrupted homework
Or to ignore a sea of Followers
And by neglecting lose them? To reblog: to post;
No more; and by a post to say we end
The overload of the thousand pictures
That Tumblr is heir to, 'tis a dream
Devoutly to be wish'd. To reblog, to post;
To post: perchance to inspire: ay, there's the rub;
For in that post what comments may come
When we have published this edited draft,
Must give us pause: there's the respect
That gives tolerance to so long a homework assignment;
For who would bear the cofactors and determinants of Trigonometry,
The pain of French conjugations
The task of memorizing court cases and their decisions
When he himself might log into Blogger or Tumblr
To share his thoughts? who would want,
To grunt and sweat under a blogless life,
But that the dread of procrastination,
The undiscover'd blogs from which
No reader returns, weakens the will to stop
And makes us rather blog and blog and blog
Than actually accomplish something productive?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all;
And thus the native hue of creativity
Is overcome with the pale cast of responsibility
And enterprises of imagination and wily
With this regard their currents turn awry,
And lose the name of action.—Log in now!
My fair blog! Procastination, in thy actions
Be all my posts remember'd.

today i am thankful for...procrastination

Why is it that homework makes me think of 32049832409 things other than the thing I'm SUPPOSED to be thinking about?  Take just now, for instance.  For some reason, Kate Nash pops up into my head and I put on "Pumpkin Soup" and I wonder, What the heck happened to Kate Nash?

So I googled her (Blasted Google is like the gateway drug to procrastination, I swear) and realize nothing has happened to her--I have just lost touch.  But, thanks to a little frenemy called Procrastination, we have reunited.  This makes me happy, because her music is so fun and empowering and say things like "I'll just read a book instead."

today i am thankful for...nice folks

Today I brought over some treats (cake cookies) and some treasures (old stuff I don't need anymore, plus a life-size Care Bear) up to school to support our New Global Citizens project for the Bocas School Project in Panama.  Unfortunately I couldn't stay long, but I had a legitimate reason--a few fellow yearbookers and I went up to Old Town Scottsdale to cheer on our fantastic yearbook advisor who was participating in the 3 Day Walk.  It was a blast!  Everyone was so energetic and enthusiastic and encouraging... and PINK!  It was great.

portland day 2

Greek resturaunt for lunch!
Lanterns?
The Monkey & the Rat, where I bought some rad fabric.
Stephanie, our trusty navigator.
Kate!
Tabitha, Emily, me, Stephanie, and Kate at Voodoo Doughnuts.  I had the "Dirty Old Bastard"--chocolate, oreo, and peanut butter.  It was to die for!
All my besties were in Portland!  Doesn't hurt to have 75% of your friends in either yearbook or newspaper.  Life is good.  More pictures to come!

portland day 1

The convention center.
Is that Micheal Bluth on his bike and cell?
Food stands!
Bookstore!  Score!
Sooo many shelves of piles of books (of prepositions...)
Was this taken with a cell phone or what?!
Self-explanatory.
This Buddha's tummy in Chinatown has obviously seen a lot of rubbing.
Pretty, pretty.

The trees were so green I was under the impression the universe decided to turn up the saturation on them.
Passing through Skidmore--more exploring there to come!

oh my goodness

Just because I took the PSAT, College Board sends me 2489329847 college brochures everyday.  95% of them I am not even remotely interested in, so I mourn the death of so many trees as I dump them into our recycle bin.  The only ones I even pay attention to are the ones from West coast schools, because I can't picture myself going anywhere else.  In my mind, if I were to be far from home, I might as well be FAR--as in continents--from home.  I don't know why I think this way, but I do.  That's why ideally I want to stay in AZ for school and study abroad for at least a year in Europe.

So today I actually recieved a brochure that has made me go a little crazy.  Because this school isn't even in the US like the other five thousand brochures I have recieved--it's in Switzerland.  And oh my goodness.  It sounds like the best situation in the world.  I mean, travel is required?  C'mon!

Things like this! I just can't handle them.  Because how do you make something so awesome actually happen in your own real life?  I don't know.  I don't know.  Don't you just hate that?

"Important Things" comes back tonight!

Demetri Martin, will you be my valentine?  And speaking of Valentine's Day... Expect a lot of pink and red posts in the near future.  I can't help it; I love this silly holiday.

It's a deal.

I gave Kendal one of my old cardigans

that my mom handed down to me years ago and has since shrunk more (I definitely haven't grown)...

and subsequently dressed her head-to-toe in "Kaylie" garb.

I am pretty positive I wore this ensemble myself a year ago...

including the pigtails.

HAHA

This made me laugh...a lot.
P.S. My last three posts have involved Jason Schwartzman and/or Marie Antoinette. Oops. :)

Polyvore is like a playground; I can't help but let it distract me from reality.

This set I aptly dub "Erin" for it is modeled after one of best friends, Erin. Note the sea turtle ring and metallic sandals: 100% Erin. She knits, uses compact mirrors, and wears feather headbands like it was her idea all along. I love you and your unique style, Erin!
