for your information

I saw The Muppets over Thanksgiving break and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.  Go see it and smile for 98 glorious minutes.

movie addiction is an understatement

So I've kind of been avoiding "movie reviews" on my blog for a while because of the sheer amount of movies I watch.  (And it's an obscene amount.  If I wasn't 100% I'm going to end up working in the entertainment business, I would be completely embarrassed to admit I've watched over 25 movies already this summer.  I really could start a movie blog, but then...that would take away from my movie-watching.)

However, I have to share with you two movies that I've seen this summer that I am absolutely in love with.

For starters, Midnight in Paris, which I refuse to say anything about, because it's the kind of movie you'd want to see for yourself.  And that I've done... Twice this summer.  Just as lovely both times around, I assure you.  If it's not a "Kaylie" movie, nothing is.

Also, I have just finished watching Pirate Radio for the first time.  I remember seeing the trailer for it in theaters and wanting to see it.  Well, I'm glad I've waited so long to get around to it, because thanks to my recent spike in interest in British television, I recognized more actors than I would have and it deepened my love for Chris O'Dowd (I daresay even Darren Criss is on the back burner now).  Also, I'm a big believer in things coming around when it's the right time, and this movie was the perfect summer night movie.  The cast was terrific, the music was killer, and the costumes/scenery made me incredibly happy in a way only a period movie set in the 60's could.

i love you, man - second edition

In addition to my already lengthy list of hunks I adore, I have a few more worthy men to acknowledge.

Darren Criss... Shocker, right?
I have a whole post dedicated to this one.  And another.

Chris O'Dowd, you are my dream man.
Okay, so this one is a recent one.  As in a week ago.  Last Sunday night my mom and I finally saw Bridesmaids and I immediately fell in love with this man.  Now I can't get enough of him on The IT Crowd.  Not only is he adorable and charming, but HE IS IRISH.  I can not stress it enough--Irish men are my Kryptonite.  (Just an FYI, Darren Criss is half Irish, half Filipino.)  Their sense of humor, their facial hair, their accent.  When I visited Ireland a couple of summers ago, I fell in love with the lush green and friendly people... and bearded men.  Yes please!

James McAvoy, you can read my mind anytime.
I've seen him in a couple of movies before, but it didn't hit me how freaking attractive this man was until I saw X-Men: First Class.  Just...look at him.  Again, the accent!  He is Scottish.  GAH. I need to go to the UK to find myself a man... Seriously.

Chord Overstreet, you are the only exception.
This isn't one I usually think of until I see him on a repeat of Ellen and he's talking about his siblings named Nash, Summer, Skye, and Charity and how this one time he delivered baby goats on their farm in Tennessee all by himself when he was fourteen...  Then I think of how incredibly charming he is.  I'm not one for blonde guys, but he is an exception.  A really, really, hot exception.

The list goes on...
Colin Firth
Chris Colfer (it's kind of comforting knowing no girl will EVER be good enough for him)
Neil Patrick Harris (See above)

What about you guys?

apparently facebook knows what's on my mind at all times...

Darren Criss, college, and adorable DIY weddings.

Can't argue with this, because I may have driven to the Neighborhood WalMart Friday after school to pick up the latest issue of GQ because Darren Criss is featured in one of the spreads...(IN WEDDING ATTIRE, NO LESS!)  Also, I am acting freakishly excited about college to the point that I am willingly taking my online placement exams already.  (The verdict is in--I am not as bad at French as I thought and I am just as bad at math as I thought.)

Yep, Facebook knows what's up.

my brain's contents

Harry Potter  I started rereading the series (crucial for this summer's extravaganza/cryfest) and feel like I am rereading my own life.  SO MANY EMOTIONS.

Glee  Can't.  Stop.  Watching.  Glee.  Today I somehow managed to watch season one AND two of sectionals (awesome coincidence, man).

Darren Criss  I am fangirling way too hard. Tumblr is the worst because everyone encourages this condition... Is it healthy?  ...I don't care.

Marie Antoinette  You guys, I wore my Marie Antoinette dress today (dressed down with a western-y belt and cardigan). I also used my macaron perfume, which I used to save for special occasions (I usually wear Coco Madameselle everyday and maybe I am trying to prolong running out because I told myself I would get more the next time I was in Paris).  But THE SMELL OF MACARONS IS THE MOST GLORIOUS THING.  So life is good.  Also, I am OBSESSED with this video.  Seriously.  Everything about it makes me so happy.

College  Don't even get me started.  My mind is EXPLODING from thinking about it so much.

What are the contents of your brain currently?

i think you are adorable

So, I have been totally fangirling all over the place with Darren Criss. It is probably unhealthy, but even my nine year old sister can't resist his charm, so I think that makes it more acceptable.  Alrthough it is kind of troubling how much I relate to this tumblr post:
"Darren Everett Criss. Setting unattainably high standards for men since 1987."

Because yeah, Darren--SO NOT FAIR!  How am I possibly going to find another you?

My PERFECT man?  Well...

The short version:
  • Darren Criss
The long version:
  • Good sense of humor
  • Intelligent
  • Open-minded
  • Compassionate
  • Dog-lover (Actually, animal-lover in general.)
  • Musically-inclined (Who doesn't love musicians? I mean--let's get serious.)
  • Dark curly hair (My weakness)
  • SCRUFF (My other weakness)
  • Silly goose (I am pretty silly, you guys.)
  • Fun to be with
  • Photographer (A blogging side-kick, anyone?)
  • Can cook me delicious meals
  • Will watch my favorite TV shows with me (and only make fun of me a little)
  • MUST LOVE HARRY POTTER (Or no. Just no.)
Now, is this really so much to ask?  Probably.  But I know someone pretty close to this description is out there making a list that looks a little like this:
  • Short (Who needs tall girls anyway...)
  • Creative
  • Can sew (Who doesn't love sewers?  I mean--let's get serious.)
  • Compassionate about all living things
  • Owns 500324 dresses
  • Blogs (I love reading blogs!)
  • Dark, curly hair (My weakness)
  • SMALL FEET (My other weakness)
  • Silly goose
  • Can bake me delicious treats
  • MUST LOVE HARRY POTTER (Or no.  Just no.)
In the meantime, I am regretting not buying a "I ♥ DC" shirt while I was in DC like four years ago, because now I could say it stands for Darren Criss.  Ah, regrets.

if it wasn't official before, it is now.

Glee is my favorite show ever in the history of ever.  If you are a fellow Gleek and haven't watched the latest episode, first of all, SHAME ON YOU, and second of all, don't read anything else in this post or I will feel a great, great sadness for ruining this glorious episode for you.

REGIONALS WAS AWESOMEEEEEE.  I loved that New Directions did original songs because they totally rocked it!  IN YO' FACE, SUE!  Rachel's song was great and I am so proud of her for being the star she is meant to be despite all the torment she gets for being confident.  Quinn has been dressing really good lately, but that doesn't dismiss how incredibly RUDE she is to Rachel.  (Although I do praise her cute hat choice.)  Rachel FTW!

I am now going to take this moment to point out that "THEY KISSED" is trending on Twitter.
...and "Trouty Mouth." (Heh.)

BUT YOU GUYZZZZ!!  THEY KISSED!!  You can not even understand the bliss I am in right now.  My love of Darren Criss has skyrocketed, my love of Klaine has gone off the charts, and my love of Glee has expanded its already very large portion in my heart.

When the episode started off with a Warblers song, I knew it was going to be a good one.  And when I saw the look on Blaine's face during "Blackbird" I could tell he was falling in love in Kurt (and I may have flailed about with giddiness).  Then when they kissed... I STARTED FLIPPING OUT.  I was jumping up and down squealing and screaming and just generally gleeking out all over the place.  I grabbed Izzy who was sitting next to me and started jumping up and down with her too...to which she gave me the funniest look with her head tilted to the side, like, "What is this human insanity?"

Then Regionals.... THEIR DUET!  Cue more "SO ADORABLE!!! THEY ARE TOO CUTE!!!" Also, did the audience have fake candles and foam #1 fingers under their chairs?!  Hah.

And the end with Kurt and Blaine...  SO ADORABLE!!! THEY ARE TOO CUTE!!!

Okay.  I'm done.

(At least for now.)

Okay, now I am.

P.S. My Lenten promise to not buy Glee songs on iTunes is hitting really hard right about now.

happy mardi gras + women's day

(photo)

So it's Mardi Gras. And  I have no idea what to give up for Lent.  I decided to construct a list of things I enjoy way too much to help me with my decision.
  • My car. Haha, good one.  This one is ruled out by default.
  • Glee. Seriously, this night's episode was SEXAAAY. No really, it was called "Sexy."  (And yes Blaine, in fact you do turn my knees to jelly.)  It was also very emotional!  I was so impressed by the writers of Glee for being so fearless and real.  I started to tear up a few times, but then Blaine would come on and I'd be like, EVERYTHING IS OKAY, FOLKS because he is such a sweetie (understatement of my life) and seeing him with one of my favorite characters (Kurt's dad) made me SO HAPPY.  Also, it was so great to hear Kurt's voice for the first time in decades!  Seriously!
  • Darren Criss.  You guyzzzzz!  I haven't fangirled this hard since the 2010 outbreak of Stevens Fever.  I am losing my mind.  I listen to Not Alone on average of a 3242 times a day and Warblers songs are on constant repeat.  Can you blame me?  I have a weakness for intelligent and attractive musicians.  And Darren Criss is not only this; he is also a talented actor and writer.  And let's not forget he has PLAYED HARRY POTTER and is ON GLEE.  He is also so down-to-earth, sweet, and open-minded.  What more can you ask in a guy?  Answer:  Nothing.
  • Yearbook.  NOT HAPPENING.  Yearbook is MY LIFE, my love, my joy, the love of my life, the joy of my being.  My one and only.
  • Cuddling with my dog Izzy.  (See above)
  • Gossip Girl. This would be cheating, because it isn't going to be on again until April 18th anyway.
  • Tumblr, Blogs, Twitter, Facebook.  I gave up Facebook last year and it went alright...it just gave me more blog time. I honestly think that if I did this again I would end up just binge-tumbling and tweeting and blogging, which kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it?
  • Pushing the snooze button. The possibility of eight more minutes of sleep is oh-so-irresistible.  The possibility of 16...24...32... Well, I can't help myself.  It's so easy.
  • Baking.  Let's level here; giving this up would be a lose/lose situation for everyone.
Oh my goodness!  This is going to be a tough one.  I think there is some room to compromise, though.

For Lent I try to choose things that will help me improve as a person and simplify my life.  I'm also always up for a challenge.  So this is my proposition:
  1. Resist the urge of pushing the snooze button.  (The horror!)
  2. Limit computer time to one hour a day.
  3. Refrain from buying Glee songs on iTunes. (This will be slightly painful for me, but it will be worth it when I get to buy the Warblers CD coming out sometime in April!)

BTW, today is the 100th year anniversary of International Women's Day.  Woohoo!

and this is when it gets a little weird...

Darren Criss at the Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 1 premiere (he is the musical HP after all)
Okay, before I start this confessional, watch this.  (In reply:  Yes, I do.)

Over the course of one Glee episode, I have completely become a Darren Criss fangirl.  I never thought he was undesirable, but I didn't see why so many girls were obsessed with him when I saw his picture all over my Tumblr dashboard (There are many Glee/Harry Potter fans on Tumblr; I feel very at home)...

Then tonight happened.  Between Blaine's disappointment on the Valentine's Day episode and tonight's confusion (and hot bedhead; let's get serious here) I have come down with a full-on crush.  Before now, I thought Blaine a little too pretentious and put-together, but seeing him so vulnerable (and adorably drunk, omggg you guyzzz)... Well, I'm over that.  He's just as uncertain as the rest of them.  And 3432438 times hotter.

Seriously, I am giggling like a little girl.  I need help.

my heart is bursting with glee (yeah, I just went there)

Glee came back tonight!!!!!!!!  It was a great episode!  The best thing--it is on again Tuesday!  What a wonderful Glee-packed week!  I am so hopped up on Super Bowl finger food and root beer and coka-cola, so I am using a lot of exclamation points!!!!

In other news, doesn't Sam look mighty fine in this Chevy commercial?  Answer:  Yes, he looks smokin' hot.  Just sayin'.  To think I used to never give blonde guys a second glance...Blasphemy!

Moral of this post:  I ♥ GLEE, life is wonderful, and blondes can be pretty attractive.  Have a snazzy week, blogfriends!

i love you, man

Confession:  I have watched one too many chick flicks this winter break, as a side effect of being sick.  Now I am going a little more boy crazy than usual.  Here are a few current loves of mine:

Jude Law in The Holiday- yes please.
Oh. My. Gracious.  I fall in love with him so much in this movie.  Everything about him is so great- He even occasionally wears glasses (a major plus) and is super cute with his two little girls.  I WANT BRITISH CHILDREN.  I am reconsidering my dream of studying abroad in France... Perhaps I should go for England instead?

Jason Schwartzman.  Anytime.  Anywhere.
I love his sweetness and boyish charm.  Bonus:  He's a shortie, like me!

Daniel Radcliffe is magical.  And a hottie.  What's not to love?
He's smart and witty, and freaking Harry Potter, for goodness sake.  I've loved him since the third grade! He is also pretty short. Heh.

Ryan Reynolds...of course.
No, not even I can resist the "Sexiest Man Alive." This man is so attractive, it shouldn't be allowed.  Now I want to watch Definitely Maybe...  Oh brother.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, especially as Tom in 500 Days of Summer.
Forget Summer- I'd listen to The Smiths with you anytime AND let you call me your girlfriend!

Jason Segel...more and more each day.
He is just too cute and funny.  Can I just hug him and never let go?

MR. SHUESTER!!!!
I wish Matthew Morrison were my Spanish teacher...and I don't even take Spanish- I take French.  Only for you, Mr. Shue.  We can take road trips and listen to all the Journey you want.  I don't mind.

The list goes on...
Paul Rudd
Zach Galifinakis
Robert Downey Jr.
Rupert Grint
Jermain Clement
ect...

I love you.

the "i'm not sick anymore" post

HOORAY!!!!!!!!!
After a week of literally taking five hour naps and watching way too many chick flicks, now I can finally do important things, like buying a black sequin pencil skirt for five dollars (five dollars!!!), seeing Harry Potter for the third time in theatres, taking a spontaneous bike ride with my bestie...and having a Freaks & Geeks marathon and blogging, like I am doing now (and let me tell me, this is very important).  Life is wonderful!

P.S. I'd take Jason Segel over James Franco any day.

stevens fever

Full disclosure:  Dahlya and I are obsessed with this man:

Can you blame us?
We just had a conversation that went a little like this:

Me: (after watching this) Hottieee.  WHY IS HE TWICE OUR AGE?!?!

Dahlya: WHY ISN'T HE MARRIED TO US?!

Me: Life is cruel.  At least I get to hear his voice every time my phone rings...because he calls me all the time.

Dahlya: I feel like I should rename everyone in my contacts "Sufjan" so that when I look at who's calling it will always be him.

Me: I don't know how I'm ever going to find someone to fill the hole Sufjan has left in my heart.

Dahlya: "Dear Sufjan, We both have unusual names, hippie parents, play the banjo, and own a yellow visor.  Please marry me?"  That is my proposal to him.

Me: Man, we are crazy fangirls.  I think we have Stevens Fever.

Dahlya:  YES! WE DO!

Me:  But sooo much more acceptable.

Let's face it--we both frequently wear hats, can knit (I just googled "sufjan stevens knitting" to verify this and read that he taught knitting to the blind in his spare time.  Are there no limits to the love I can have for this man?), and have brown hair... We are obviously made for eachother.  Now please half your age and fall in love with me.  Cool, thanks!

i ♥ sufjan stevens

Just got back from the show!

It was

colorful
wonderful
hilarious
happy
heartbreaking
beautiful
charming
boogie-worthy
loud
quiet
bright
psychedelic
apocalyptic
hat-wearing
streamer-twirling
inspired
crazy
fun
awesome

Can it get much better than that?

Oh wait, it can...

"My t-shirt is too big."
"Let's boogie to the beat of... America!"
and Sufjan getting his toys out of the way for a "slow jam"
and using auto-tune
and dancing adorably

and officially being one of my favorite people I don't know.

Time to download Age of Adz and make cupcake frosting.  Life is freaking sweet.

going the distance

Yesterday I saw Going the Distance with my mom and Nicole.  We loved it!  It was such a fun watch, full of jokes and good music.  It was also a lot more realistic than 95% of chick flicks made today.  I've always loved Drew, but seeing Justin Long with her (they date on and off in real life) made me fall in love with him too!  So sweet.

more movies to see! it never ends...

Oh my goodness.  Both are so attractive.  I can't handle it!

I ♥ Jason Bateman.  'Nuff said.

Movies I have seen the last two weeks:  Despicible Me (loved it), Inception (OH MY GOODNESS SO GOOD), Dinner for Schmucks (Hilarious), and Ramona Beezus (So cute).

i ♥ fall

Fall: decent weather, tights, the beginning of the holiday season...  Fall is a good situation, that I am really looking forward to.  Even better about Fall?  All my favorite shows come back on air!  And by favorite shows I pretty much mean Gossip Girl, Glee, and Bored to Death.  Speaking of Jason Schwartzman...We were basically made for eachother.  Not only is he short, but we have matching outfits:
Hahahha.  Anyway.  Happy Thursday!

i can't tell who I am in love with more

The other night Kate and I started watching season one of Flight of the Conchords.  I am so in love with these crazy cats.  Why do all the hilariously awesome shows only last a few seasons long?  (RIP Arrested Development)  Sad news.  Here's something to cheer you up:
Hahahahaha.  They kill me.

Mr. Schuster....

I'm going to miss seeing you every Tuesday night at 8.  I think I might have to buy some Glee songs on iTunes to hold me over until next season...  As my mom would say, we're Gleeks around here.

Good news:
I got to see my pals tonight (Glee finale + mint brownies = a good time)
I aquired a hand-me-down laptop from my uncle (Hooray!)
I'm working again for the summer (I nanny two hilarious girls)

Bad news:
I've kind of been in a blogging funk lately.  Also, I've been really busy (SAT, anyone?  Online class?  Work?  ACT?), so when I do have free time, I'm basically trying to take advantage of it to catch up on my reading, sewing (I finally sewed a skirt with the fabric I got in Portland!), or baking. Or I am calling Rachel up so we can watch Arrested Development...  Okay.  So I guess it's not all that bad.  At all.  But hopefully this new laptop will help me get back into the blogging routine, because I do miss it!

Next post:
I will prove that I have been following my new year resolutions (or not)
