what if

It's late. I should be convincing myself to go to sleep, but I'm hyped up on an episode of Gilmore Girls and the fact that I managed to organize my sewing class fabric perfectly into my picnic basket/suitcase, so I thought I'd share this adorable trailer for What If I just came across.  As a huge Harry Potter fan, I'm always happy to see Daniel Radcliffe's face, but this is the first post-Potter movie of his that I've actually felt like I need to see.  You could say I'm a sucker for a sweet Rom Com. You could say that quite loudly...because it's very true. I've seen Zoe Kazan on screen only twice--in Ruby Sparks, which I just watched last summer while alone in Portland and enjoyed, and in It's Complicated, which I've seen a few times because it seems to be on TV often (or used to, at least) and it's just one of those cozy movies that always seem okay to leave on while baking or whatnot.  The two of them appear to make an almost unbearably cute pair, and I can't wait to see this with a girl friend, or Ted.  In theaters August 1st.

Also, there's this.  I need to read the book this summer, obviously.  And yes, I am currently deprived of movie-going. Or shall I say, going to the cinema.

new tunes

I'm starting to get back into the blogging groove (as well as the normal-living groove--still not sure what's up with my sleeping habits and appetite).  I know I have so many adventures to share, but right now I'm still in my PJ's and trying to figure out summer work, so listening to new music seemed appropriate.  Thought I'd share a few finds.  Feel free to share your own!

Although I heard about them back when they were YouTube sensenations (I think from Cup of Jo), I've become increasingly more obsessed with their sound this past year,  Also, their style is just too cool to even handle.

This song sounds like it belongs in the newest Mad Men season, which I just started watching yesterday.  I'm into it.

I have to be honest--this little album sneakpeak isn't anything too surpising, but Andrew Bird is an artist that I respect so much, and everything he does is pretty magical.  When Ted and I saw him in Portland, we were so impressed with his charm and professionalism.  What a whistling stud.

today i am thankful for...middle school favorites

Tonight is one of those classic Kaylie nights where I bypass a fun college party and instead opt to stay home and be semi-productive by reading blogs, watching the latest Emma Approved, finishing a homework assignment, and listening to The Killers and Interpol.  Sorry, I hope that wasn't too overwhelming to read.  Things get a little crazy around here...

There's something so comforting and nostalgic about these bands to me.  The Killers were my first band love (Hot Fuss was the first CD I ever purchased and it remains to this day my favorite album ever) and Interpol's Antics got me through that weird transition from elementary school to middle school.  Yes, I was way cooler in middle school than I am now.  I realize that.  But middle school was the weirdest ever, so I won't get too sentimental.  I'm thinking The Strokes are up next...

summer angst part 2

I SHOULD BE EATING HOMEMADE POPSICLES AND DANCING TO THIS SONG IN THE SUN.

But instead it's 1:30am and I slept way too much last night/took a tiny nap today so I can't justify not working on finals stuff for at least a little longer, because we all know I'm going to sleep in regardless of when I go to sleep.  On a brighter note, I'm not freaking out anymore about the presentation.

What's up with the two posts in a night?  I swear that when I actually HAVE STUFF TO DO, I literally am all over tumblr and this blog.

Oh well.  Listen to the Blondie cover and think summer-y thoughts.

What's making you happy this weekend?

i'm seeing a pattern here

Love this!  Also, it reminds me of the play that I saw tonight at my school.  For The Increased Difficulty of Concentration (translated from Czech by the professor who directed the show), the costume shop built five costumes out of the same bonkers patterned material.  It was so fun to see all of them on stage at the same time turning a particularly chaotic hallucinatory sequence.  The play itself is a farce, so of course it was completely crazy, not in chronological order, a blur of orange set and turquoise/brown/green costumes, and lots of door-slamming and calculated noise.  Overall, it was pretty hilarious and only a little confusing.

musique pour yer ears

I am really looking forward to Sucre's first album due out April 10th!

I just downloaded my free copy of Andrew Bird's new album "Break it Yourself" that came with my concert ticket and I am loving it!  Can't wait to see him live this April.

things to remember (vimeo edition)

I love my home, the desert. It is so beautiful and unique. I have come to appreciate it even more being surrounded by forest the past four months.  It's good to be home to a 70 degree winter!

Everything will fall into place.  I spent a few troublesome days during my first semester trying to pin down exactly what I wanted to achieve academically and career-wise, simultaneously knowing that it's impossible to know this now, or even ever.  Typical Kaylie--I don't get stressed out about having to write a six page paper, but I get stressed out about the grand scheme.  Isn't it supposed to be the other way around?

Christmas is about sharing the love.  This year I am keeping presents pretty low-key, because I can't afford to go crazy.  Not only is it more fun to be making almost 100% of my gifts, but it's also more nurturing to my Christmas spirit.  Not sure if this video is relevant, but I enjoy it.

I will never get over my Marie Antoinette obsession.  Never.  The music in this video isn't my cup of tea, but the styling is deliciously pastel.  Also, I read in the comments that the costume designer made the dresses in a week?!  I'm impressed.

Christmas in Arizona is the best.  Since the weather doesn't know it's the holiday season, I always overcompensate for it with dozens of cookies, crafts, and decorations.  Not to mention a constant stream of holiday wear.  This video is the perfect example of keeping the spirit alive in AZ.  I love it!

keep calm and gleek out

ONE WEEK UNTIL FALL BREAK.  Exciting, right?  Well...

I have two papers due before break.  (Well, technically one, but I REALLY do NOT want to spend my Fall break thinking about Greek tragedies.  Zeus no.)

This comes out to 10-11 pages in total.  Welcome to college; I know.

Plus, I really want to see  am going to see the One Acts (student written and directed plays that are, you guessed it!  One act) on this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night because I've been doing weird things for them like making a loin cloth out of pillowcases and giving pink owl slippers snouts so they look like pigs.  I started reading two of them, and literally can not wait to see all the costumes I've been seeing everyday come to life.

I'm not one to stress out, but this is quite the situation, people.

All I can do is listen to the newest Glee songs and dance a little at my desk as I try to get myself to write about Plato and Greek tragedies.
