I'm starting to get back into the blogging groove (as well as the normal-living groove--still not sure what's up with my sleeping habits and appetite).  I know I have so many adventures to share, but right now I'm still in my PJ's and trying to figure out summer work, so listening to new music seemed appropriate.  Thought I'd share a few finds.  Feel free to share your own!

Although I heard about them back when they were YouTube sensenations (I think from Cup of Jo), I've become increasingly more obsessed with their sound this past year,  Also, their style is just too cool to even handle.

This song sounds like it belongs in the newest Mad Men season, which I just started watching yesterday.  I'm into it.

I have to be honest--this little album sneakpeak isn't anything too surpising, but Andrew Bird is an artist that I respect so much, and everything he does is pretty magical.  When Ted and I saw him in Portland, we were so impressed with his charm and professionalism.  What a whistling stud.

today i am thankful for...middle school favorites

Tonight is one of those classic Kaylie nights where I bypass a fun college party and instead opt to stay home and be semi-productive by reading blogs, watching the latest Emma Approved, finishing a homework assignment, and listening to The Killers and Interpol.  Sorry, I hope that wasn't too overwhelming to read.  Things get a little crazy around here...

There's something so comforting and nostalgic about these bands to me.  The Killers were my first band love (Hot Fuss was the first CD I ever purchased and it remains to this day my favorite album ever) and Interpol's Antics got me through that weird transition from elementary school to middle school.  Yes, I was way cooler in middle school than I am now.  I realize that.  But middle school was the weirdest ever, so I won't get too sentimental.  I'm thinking The Strokes are up next...

summer angst part 2

But instead it's 1:30am and I slept way too much last night/took a tiny nap today so I can't justify not working on finals stuff for at least a little longer, because we all know I'm going to sleep in regardless of when I go to sleep.  On a brighter note, I'm not freaking out anymore about the presentation.

What's up with the two posts in a night?  I swear that when I actually HAVE STUFF TO DO, I literally am all over tumblr and this blog.

Oh well.  Listen to the Blondie cover and think summer-y thoughts.

Some days are just kind of UGH.  Today was one of those days.  So when someone put on their iPod (thank you, Jacob, if you are reading this) during yearbook, their upbeat playlist was just what I needed. It's funny how a good dose of music can do wonders to a disheartened spirit.  After both yearbook classes got out, I put on my Phoenix channel on Pandora to listen to while I worked on homework.  The song above came on.  The universe knows what's up...and does its best to help out.  I am thankful for this.

What a fun music video!  I adore it.  Although I have to wonder, who on earth would ignore Zooey?  Well, certainly not Ben Gibbard!

volume two

To my surprise and utter delight, Volume Two, the She & Him record I preordered about a month ago, was waiting for me at the door when I got home from work today.  I've never preordered anything in my life (other than Harry Potter books to be picked up at the bookstore), so I'm not sure if it's normal that a week before the release date, I get my copy in the mail.  Regardless, what a lovely surprise!  I adore it.  Zooey's voice sounds very natural floating from my record player, although maybe this is because the album reminds me a bit (or a lot) of my Nancy Sinatra record.  This is a good thing though.  I am quite pleased with their retro sound.

not all resolutions are forgotten

This year, I haven't bought any clothes, just like I resolved to do.  In fact, this restraint has served its purpose as motivator to get me to sew more often for myself (aside from the constant altering and hemming that comes with being a 4'9 almost seventeen-year-old), because late the other night I found myself at the sewing machine, sewing up this floral dress.  Spring is already here, in my mind.  I'm riding my bike whenever I get the chance and singing to Coconut Records in my head.  The weather couldn't be better for such behavior.  Definitely not six more weeks of winter here, Punxsutawney Phil.

Happy Mardi Gras, by the way.  I'm Catholic, so I always give something up (until Easter) for Lent.  This year, it will be Facebook.  Last year, it was reading blogs and watching TV (okay, Gossip Girl was the exception).  I like Lent, because it makes me realize how I can simplify my life by finding out what I can (or can't) do without.  For instance, one year I gave up caffeine.  Ever since (we're talking like 4th grade, here) I haven't been much of a caffeine drinker.  One year, I gave up cookies (which is particularly trying because February is Girl Scout cookie time).  Well, I still love cookies.  About the blogs--well, I still love and need those too.  But the TV?  Since last Lent it had been unplugged for the majority of the time (okay, Gossip Girl was the exception).  So just a few weeks ago I replaced it with a record player. Regardless, I enjoy Lent.  Even if you aren't Catholic, I think it's a novel idea to practice restraint in at least one area of your life, whether it be a sweet indulgance or a social networking site.

So, here is another thing I won't be baking this Valentines day:  a giant cookie. Actually, it is called the Big Love Butterscotch Cookie and it sounds really delicious.  Although the Big Love part makes me think of the show, which isn't very romantic (polygymy; no thanks).  And while I'm on the topic, I have to complain that Big Love ruined the song "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys for me (it was used as the theme song).  Oh well, I need to go make some goodies for tomorrow!

Genuis...is genuis

On newer iPods, you can select a song and "Genius" can pick up songs it thinks it will coincide quite nicely with. Pretty cool, yeah. But I wasn't sold until now.

I "genius"ed the song Sweet Disposition last night and THE FIRST FOUR SONGS WERE ALSO FROM THE MOVIE 500 DAYS OF SUMMER.

How does it know these things?! Freaky business. Just had to share...

1. Catching up with Dahlya over Indian food...Yum!

2. Micheal's has their Halloween stuff out!!! They're on the same exact mind-set as me... I already know I'm being Velma.

3. Cartoon Network had a Holiday Specials thing going on yesterday while I was babysitting. We watched a Casper Christmas special--you better believe I'm also thinking about the holiday season as summer comes to a close.

4. My dad chose 500 Days of Summer as his birthday movie! (I take him to the movies for holidays--it's kind of our thing.) When he said, "500...that one movie," I immediately I assumed he was talking about some sequel to 300. I was delighted to be mistaken! I love my daddy and his love of movies. :) For Christmas we saw Yes Man. Hooray for Zooey Deschanel movies my dad will go see! (He's more of an Emily fan...he loves Bones.) Can't wait! I already love the soundtrack.

5. New magazines flooding the mail--the mash-up clearly depicts my many sides. (Nylon, NG, TeenVOGUE, Martha Stewart Living...yes sir)

6. Daydreaming about Europe--I even had a dream last night that I was buying a pastry in Paris.

7. Anticipating school (you read it right).

8. Having loads more of space to sprawl out and craft it up in my room--even though my chaise looks a little dumb against the wall.
