wanderlust

Lately all I really want to do is pack some dresses and hats into my picnic basket suitcase and hit the road in my nonexistent old red car (yep, it's gotta be red, folks).

I want to go back to Oregon and explore its forests and mountains.  I want to go back to Alabama and eat copious amounts of hushpuppies and cheese grits.  I want to go back to Iowa and stay in the attic of my great grandma's old house and catch one of the two movies playing at the local theatre.  I want to go back to North Carolina to admire all the furniture and antiques.  I want to go back to Illinois and really get to know the Windy City.  And I basically need to go to New York and Boston to visit the family I have there, because I've never had the chance!

And those are just the places where I have family that I have visitied (or not, in the case of NY and Boston).  There are so many other places I want to go that I have no connections whatsoever to. But that doesn't matter; I'm ready to form my own connections and discover so much more about my country on my own...

and eat its awesome food,
and scour its varied plains and antique shops,
and meet its diverse people,
and hear its music.

There is so much out there to see, taste, smell, touch, and hear.  I can't wait to try to experience it all.

And I will.

But first, I need to graduate (crazy to fathom, that this milestone is so close that it's near the top of my life's to-do list).

And I will.

But first, I need to get some sleep (first on the to-do list).

an education

I finally saw it, after reading so much about it!  It definitely deserves all the praise it is getting.  Of course, I fell in love with the main character Jenny's style.  It is the epitome of all I strive for.  Let's go to Paris and pack our sunglasses and I'll bring my Pentax and we can stroll alongside the Seine and take photographs...  I'll wear a floral dress and we'll call it a day.  Oh, and let's make it 1961 while we're at it.  Okay?  Okay.

i want to be where your heart is home

Every once in a while I find myself on The Selby, scoping out the awesome homes.  This would be my ideal formula for my future home:

this whole wood fireplace, nature, dog situation
     482349823749823 books and records
+   bright-colored knick knacks and artwork

oh my goodness

Just because I took the PSAT, College Board sends me 2489329847 college brochures everyday.  95% of them I am not even remotely interested in, so I mourn the death of so many trees as I dump them into our recycle bin.  The only ones I even pay attention to are the ones from West coast schools, because I can't picture myself going anywhere else.  In my mind, if I were to be far from home, I might as well be FAR--as in continents--from home.  I don't know why I think this way, but I do.  That's why ideally I want to stay in AZ for school and study abroad for at least a year in Europe.

So today I actually recieved a brochure that has made me go a little crazy.  Because this school isn't even in the US like the other five thousand brochures I have recieved--it's in Switzerland.  And oh my goodness.  It sounds like the best situation in the world.  I mean, travel is required?  C'mon!

Things like this! I just can't handle them.  Because how do you make something so awesome actually happen in your own real life?  I don't know.  I don't know.  Don't you just hate that?

je souhaite que j'aie été à Paris maintenent...

Maybe it's because I'm reading a biography of Marie Antoinette right now, but suddenly I miss last summer. I miss fairytale Paris!

I love reading The Cherry Blossom Girl when I am feeling this way.  Also, it reminds me that I can read French, which I have to admit makes me feel pretty darn cool.  (Just don't ask to hear me speak it.  That is a whole different story...)  Regardless, posts like this one make me seriously question my strict NO COLD attitude.  How completely lovely, right?

youth in revolt

I really enjoyed it.  Micheal Cera kills me!  Although I don't buy that this is the first girl to act interested in his character Nick.  I mean, he has a thing for Frank Sinatra records and old films--could he be more adorable?  Regardless of this utter blasphemy, I laughed a ton.

Speaking of records, I now have my own record player! This is swell news.  Also, I have acquired a heart scarf and a heart ring after an afternoon downtown.  I can't resist the power of hearts this time of year, what can I say?  Another thing I can't resist--watching 4092384029 movies.  I seriously watched 6 or 7 this weekend alone.  Among them, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and okay, Leap Year.  I can't resist rom-coms with Irish love interests; sorry.

More than ever, lately I miss Ireland, and Europe in general.  Last summer seems like a distant dream!  I want to go back ASAP.

some days I feel a little off...

Things like this video make me feel better.  (And also make me want to go to Georgia.)  What do you do when you are feeling blue?

DAYDREAMING ABOUT STUDYING IN IRELAND

SINGING ALONG TO ROGUE WAVE

I feel happy! Hooray!

sometimes my life is a cute indie film

This afternoon after school I helped Katie out with a photo assignment which included me and Domenico in the groves as Dorothy and (a really trendy teenVOGUE-esque) Tin Man.

Moral of the story: I wish I were in a fairytale, full of frilly dresses and endless groves. Or, uh, at least in a teenVOGUE spread.

Anyway, happy, happy Spring!
